You may remember that Mark Powell launched a late write in vote effort to defeat Dan Cooper in the 2010 election. He was prevented from getting into the race through normal process by his job situation, which changed in the summer of 2010. Several of us went down to either toss newspapers for him or serve as poll greeters on election day.
Just got this email from our friend Jonathan Hill from the Anderson Tea Party.
I just found out the dates of the HD10 special election for the SC House seat recently vacated by Rep. Dan Cooper, former chairman of the House Ways & Means committee (and who will be taking a 6-figure lobbyist position with Clemson University, from what I have been told).
Election dates are as follows:
Primary: July 12
General: August 30The candidates I know of currently:
Mark Powell, from Williamston (already filed)
Joshua Putnam, from Powdersville (will be filing)Both candidates will run as Republicans. Putnam ran in the Republican primary against Cooper, and missed beating him by around 130 votes in 2010. Mark Powell ran as a write-in against Cooper this past November, and was recently elected as the Second Vice Chairman of the Anderson Republican Party and as a delegate to the SCGOP.
I will be supporting Mark Powell, as I think he has much more to offer than Joshua Putnam. This is a chance to send a conservative to Columbia in place of Dan Cooper. Any support you can give would be greatly appreciated!
Sincerely,
Jonathon Hill
This is a GREAT opportunity to take another seat for a conservative in Columbia. I’ve chatted with Mark several times, and encourage you to contact him yourself (I’ll let you know when he has a website up with contact info).
And then, when the time comes, consider making a donation to his campaign, or volunteering for him. I’m sure Jonathan will keep me informed and I’ll keep you informed!
